*Every owner at the Kahana Outrigger was asked what their favorite places and experiences were on the island of Maui. Following is their responses with links and tips to help our guests connect with them. Aloha!
What is your favorite place to eat on Maui?
Hali’imaile General Store – Excellent Food
Merriman’s – Excellent food and Incredible setting on the water.
Java Jazz is a great place for breakfast and best soup on the island for lunch. Great food and music at dinnertime. It is in the Times Market Shopping Center.
Aloha Mix Plate – Best local food.
Which restaurant has the best views?
Merriman’s Kapalua, Lahaina Fish Company on Front Street, Cool Cat Cafe across from the Banyan Tree in Lahaina is a great place for people watching. Excellent burgers and drinks too and often has live music from local musicians.
Are there any must see places you recommend for a persons first time to Maui?
Makena Beach, aka Big Beach past Wailea is a must do, as is Haleakala Sunrise, Front Street, Old Lahaina Luau, The Aquarium (Maui Ocean Center) is well worth going to.
If you have some time, the Road to Hana is an awesome experience, but a very long day. Its something you may want to save for your second visit to Maui.
How do you get around? Car, bicycle, scooter, bus?
Car, Uber, Lyft, and the Local Bus is great for teenagers.
What attractions are nearest to your home?
The small beach in front of our unit is a fun spot. D.T. Fleming Beach is a large beach with big waves. The zip lines at Kapalua, Snorkeling at Honolua Bay with the crystal clear water, lots of fish and sea turtles are prevalent.
What time of year do you enjoy being in Maui?
January through April is whale season. May through June as well as October through November have less tourists and better prices for condo rentals as well as car rentals.
Are there local events/traditions you experience?
Halloween is awesome on Front Street Lahaina. We also love to be here for the Canoe Races. Paradise Speedway Maui (auto racing) is a must try experience as well.
The Swap Meet at University of Maui in Kahului on Saturday mornings is well worth visiting for local crafts as well as local food.
Who is the best place to rent snorkel equipment from or should we bring our own?
We have snorkel equipment for our guests to use as well as beach chairs, ice chests, umbrellas, beach towels and toys for the kids.
Where can I eat the best sushi?
Sansei’s is in Kapalua. Miso Phat near our condo is excellent. It is a small hole in the wall restaurant just a short walk from the Kahana Outrigger.
Do you have board games at your place?
Yes, we have board games, card and binoculars.
What are your favorite golf course?
Kapalua Golf & Tennis, Kai Kaanapali, Kahili Golf Course in Wailuku is a great course & a great value too.
Where have you hiked before?
Le Perouse Bay just past Makena Beach is where the last lava flows were. It is a beautiful place and not too well known.
What activities do you tell your guests to experience as a once in a lifetime experience?
Snorkeling, Down Hill Bike Ride down Haleakala then Zip Lining afterward. If you are an early bird, sunrise at Haleakala is a once in a lifetime experience.
Share a fun fact about the island that you’ve learned since having your unit?
Taking the ferry from Lahaina to Lanai is a great way to spend a day. Lanai city feels like old Hawaii and the beach near the ferry landing site is an awesome beach that is usually not crowded. You can even rent a jeep if you want to tour the island.
DownTime! You don’t need to try to see everything on your first visit. Remember to relax at the condo!
